Director of Information Technology - Reports jointly to Dean of IU Libraries and VP for Information Technology Responsible for ILS for all libraries at Indiana University and for deployment of data warehouse information. Responsible for workstation support, WWW environment, delivery of electronic databases, LANs/networks, software support, printing, and training for all Bloomington campus libraries. Project leader for SIRSI implementation.

University of Chicago Library

The Systems Division of the University of Chicago reports to the Assistant Director for Systems.  At the moment the Assistant Director for Technical Services and the Science Librarian are providing temporary management.

IMS

The Information Management Systems Group performs both production and development activities in support of the integrated library system and related information management systems. The group is responsible for operating and enhancing central library production systems.

DLS

The Digital Library Systems Group performs both production and development activities in support of the University of Chicago Digital Library. Digital library initiatives include converting resources to digital form according to relevant standards; creating access to locally created, locally mounted and remotely mounted resources; intellectually organizing resources for Web-based access; supporting the creation of standards-based metadata, providing appropriate search and retrieval mechanisms, and providing access to library materials in a variety of electronic formats. The Digital Library Systems Group is also responsible for administering and operating all library-managed UNIX servers.

ADS

Administrative and Desktop Systems Group administers and supports all desktop systems including purchase, installation, upgrades and software distribution and support.  Administration of the Windows NT network is included in their duties.

Staff:  Manager, 4 Small Systems Specialists, 1 Inventory Control Clerk, 1 Technical Assistant, 4 Student Assistants.

Coach: 1FTE more or less -- (professional) -- manages, chooses starting line-ups, negotiates work agreements, cheers, and is a utility in-fielder and pinch-hitter

Small systems/equipment

3.5 FTE (1 professional, 1 technician, 5 students) -- support all equipment including servers, desk top pcs, and peripherals, networking etc. 550 workstations, in 8 libraries, in 4 cities: windows 95/98, NT, Mac, Solaris; support for pc and server software; support for one small Novell CD lan in govdocs; equipment planning.

Infotech Arcades

3 FTE (3 professionals - currently 2 professionals and a grad asst -- soon (sigh) 1 professional and a grad asst or two) - manage two arcade facilities; faculty training in Internet and multimedia for teaching and research; library staff training in software and Internet apps; library web site management; outreach web projects; web consulting.

Integrated Library Systems

1.3 FTE (1 professional and .3 programmer): support for local integrated system (Ameritech LMS), statewide DRA implmementation, statewide Ovid implementation, OCLC, CIC VEL, liaison to administrative computing and library committees.

Unix servers

2 FTE (1 professional and 2 grad assistants): Sun workstation and xterminal support, AIX support for web site scripting, videoteleconferencing, enterprise calendaring, WebZ and DRSS support, Oracle and other database support, general unix support.

Systems Services

Oversees the installation and troubleshooting for all PCs, printers, and other desktop related equipment in the libraries. This group also supports standard desktop software and selected specialized library software.

Maintains the network within the library and its servers (NT & UNIX). Responsible for installation and maintenance of server side software. Variously programming activities related to the library web pages.

Web team

Designs and maintains the library web pages. Responds to all requests/comments from web pages.

Integrated Systems

1 Project Manager
Coordinates the implementation and day-to-day tasks for the integrated library system. UIUC is part of the ILSCO consortium and most direct ILS work is done by the consortium staff.
